Memory & History of a Jewish Home in Lisbon
Long before Jewish tourism existed in Portugal,
long before organized tours and standardized offers,
our home in Lisbon was already an open door.
For many years, Jewish travelers from all over the world — families, rabbis, researchers, descendants of Portuguese Jews, Holocaust survivors and
their children — passed through here.
They came seeking much more than a visit: memory, context, and understanding.
At a time when no Jewish infrastructure yet existed, our home naturally became a place of passage.
Shabbat meals were shared here, along with long conversations and family stories that had sometimes remained unspoken for generations.
This was not a commercial activity.
It was simply self-evident.
Over time, our activity evolved.
Today, we no longer offer accommodation or Shabbat meals.
What has never changed is our commitment to Portuguese Jewish memory, historical accuracy, and transmission.
The tours we offer today are the direct legacy of those years.
They are based on decades of research, listening, and lived experience.
This house is not a backdrop.
It is part of the story.
